woolbird is a one-woman-band knit & crochet designer based in northeast wisconsin, u.s.a.
Hello, I’m Brianna. And I’m so happy you are here! No, really, thank you for stopping by. You might love to knit or crochet, and if so, we have something in common.
If you enjoy wooly wools, relaxing projects with just enough complexity, and effortless clothes that last beyond ever-changing fashion trends — we have that in common too.
I live a quiet life in a little home with my husband and our dog, Rosie. My favorite moments are spent with both of them, at home or adventuring in the woodsy landscape, living slowly.
Speaking of slow. It is a bit funny how knitting and crocheting your own clothes is just about the slowest-paced fashion you can take part in — yet during the day I am a Textile Artist in retail fashion which is of course a fast-paced industry. I enjoy the busy-ness of that part of my life and when I see someone out and about wearing a floral or other print that I illustrated, my heart is happy.
Woolbird is a wholly different type of fulfillment. Spending time with a project and my own thoughts (or an audiobook) at the end of the day gives me a sense of calm and comfort. The greatest part is when it comes to you all — seeing others wear and love a project they made and I wrote, is the best kind of collaboration.
Like so many others, and maybe you too, I learned to knit from my Grandma when I was around 8 years old. She’s quite the crafty lady. We would race each other to knit a garter stitch scarf and the first to wrap their scarf around their neck twice would win. She always won.
I knitted off and on through my teens and early twenties, then picked up crochet in 2020. As time went on I worked from patterns less and freehanded my projects more, so naturally I needed to write down what I was doing. Enter, woolbird.
If you made it this far, I hope you had a nice coffee or tea to sip because that was a novel. Now, where do we go from here? We go and knit, that’s where.
